As a platform that hosts entertaining short-form videos, TikTok often isn’t taken seriously by older generations. Yet, with over a billion active monthly users, the app’s impact on cultural trends is undeniable, and it has become a primary source of income for many.
But can making TikTok videos be an actual career? How much does the app pay its content creators, exactly? Read on, and all your questions will be answered!
Earning Through TikTok Creator Fund
Similarly to YouTube’s partnership programs, TikTok offers its content creators the possibility to sign up for a creator’s fund and earn money for their videos. Not everyone will get paid the same, though — the amount depends on the number and authenticity of views, the frequency of publishing, as well as the engagement level.
However, in most cases, TikTok pays its content creators approximately two to four cents per 1,000 views. In other words, a viral video with millions of views can make anywhere between $20 and $400, and sometimes even more!
And while that may not seem like much, keep in mind that the videos in question are only a few seconds long, and most TikTokers post several a day. Not to mention, TikTok is famous for its fast-spreading trends, so getting viral on the app isn’t as out of reach as it might seem.
How to Sign Up for the Creator Fund
The idea behind launching the Creator Fund is to share some of the app’s profits with its hard-working creators. So, the sign-up process is pretty straightforward.
First, of course, you need to log into your TikTok profile. Then, tap the three dots in the top-right corner of your screen to navigate to your account settings. Once there, click on the Manage account option and scroll down to find Switch to Pro Account.
TikTok will then ask you what type of account you want to run — choose Creator, save the new settings, and return to your profile.
Open the account settings again and scroll down until you find the Creator option. Once you select it, you’ll find the TikTok Creator Fund button. Tapping on it will take you to the application form you need to fill out to finish the process.
But before you start the application process, make sure your profile meets all the requirements first. You can only sign up for TikTok Creator Fund if:
- You are 18 years old
- Your account adheres to Community Guidelines
- You reside in the UK, US, Germany, Spain, France, or Italy
- Your account has at least 10,000 followers and 100,000 views in the past 30 days
Otherwise, you’ll either have to try again at a different time or find other ways to earn through TikTok.
How Much Do TikTokers Actually Earn?
Even though we know approximately how much TikTok pays its creators, it’s difficult to talk about TikTokers’ earnings with precision. That’s because TikTok Creator is not the only way to make money. There are also sponsorships, fan donations, merchandise, affiliate marketing, virtual gifts, and more.
What we do know is that the highest-paid TikToker in the world, Charlie D’Amelio, annually earns approximately $17.5 million. On top of that, many other doors opened to her precisely because of her TikTok following. So, one thing is certain — TikTok can undoubtedly be a lucrative career path!
