How to Add Multiple Photos to an Instagram Story

Published August 9, 2023

Instagram stories are a perfect way to communicate with your followers, showing them what you are up to or sharing important information. And they are quite flexible, too — you can upload photos and videos, create polls and countdowns, share music, include shoutouts, and more.

But sometimes, a single photo isn’t enough to achieve the desired effect. Luckily, Instagram doesn’t disappoint in this area either, as there are many ways to add several images at once. Today, we will explore the four most common methods to help you master Instagram stories.

Method 1: Instagram Layout

Let’s start with the simplest and most commonly used method for adding multiple photos to your story — arranging them in a premade Instagram layout.

First, open your Instagram app and tap the Your Story icon in the top left corner. There, you will see your camera roll, but instead of selecting photos, click on the Camera option that’s first in the row.

Once your camera opens, focus on the left-hand side icons. Tap the third one that looks like a small grid — that is the Layout icon you’re looking for.

The Layout icon will automatically open a quadrant on your screen, allowing you to fill each segment with a photo. To customize this quadrant and arrange the photos, tap the divided square icon just below the Layout icon. That will give you several options to choose from, so try them out until you find the perfect one.

Once you’ve picked the suitable layout, you can fill the segments in two ways. The first one includes capturing the photos by tapping on the white circle at the center bottom of the screen. Repeat this as many times as you need to complete the layout.

On the other hand, you can tap the bottom left icon that shows a tiny preview of your camera roll. That will allow you to choose photos you’ve taken previously to fill out your layout.

Once you finish choosing your photos, tap the checkmark. Finally, you’ll be able to add text or stickers if you wish, and when you finish, click the arrow to publish your story! This is a great alternative to just changing the background color on your Instagram story.

Method 2: Sticker Technique

Instagram has only a limited number of layouts to choose from, and as such, it can feel rather restrictive. If you want to show off your creativity to your followers, we suggest trying the sticker method instead.

Once again, tap the + icon to add an Instagram story and then the Camera option at the top. Now, on the left-hand side, press the Create icon, marked by capital and small letter A (Aa). That will take you to Instagram’s create mode, allowing you to add text, gifs, countdowns, and more.

Next, tap on the smiling sticker icon at the top center of the screen. You’ll see various stickers and other options, so scroll down until you find an icon showing a square with a plus (or a photo from your gallery with a picture symbol). Press it, and it will open your camera roll.

Now, you can choose the first photo you want to feature in your story. Simply by dragging it around the screen, you can adjust its position, size, and tilt. In addition, double-tap on it to change its shape into a circle, heart, star, and more.

Repeat the same process to add as many pictures as you want to the collage. You can also change the background by tapping the circle in the bottom right corner of the screen. Then, add some text if you’d like, and publish the story!

Method 3: Third-Party Design App

If even the sticker method doesn’t give you the desired results, you may need to look beyond Instagram for help. Luckily, it’s easy to find Instagram collage apps, as well as regular photo editing apps, to assist you in creating the perfect story.

So, choose one with all the features you’re looking for, download it, and start editing your photos. Then, export the finished collage to your camera roll and go to Instagram.

From this point, the steps are the same as when uploading a single photo to your story. Tap the + icon, choose the collage from your camera roll, add text or stickers if you want to, and press the arrow to publish!

Method 4: Separate Slides

Finally, if you simply want to upload the photos without making a collage or layout, tap the + icon to access your camera roll, then press the Select button at the top right corner of the screen. Mark all the photos you want to add and choose the Separate option.

Just like with separate photos, you can add effects, stickers, or text to each individual image. When you’re done, press Next and share your story. You can upload up to 10 photos using this method.
