Download Your IG Data
Instagram provides a way for you to manage your data for security purposes. You can get your data on either your phone or a computer. We will share guides on how to download your IG data on both.

How to Download Instagram Data on a Phone
Take the following steps to get your IG data from within the Instagram app:
- Open the Instagram app
- From your feed page, top on your profile photo in the bottom-right of the screen
- Tap on the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines) in the top-right of the screen
- Tap on Your activity
- Tap on Download your information
- Tap on the Download or transfer information button
- Select your Instagram profile from the list of connected Meta accounts and tap Next
- Select whether your would like All available information or Some of your information
- Select whether you would like to Download to device or Transfer to destination and tap Next
Download to Device
If you select Download to device, you will need to select a date range for the data you would like to download. This range will be as little as for the last week and as long as for the entire life of your account.
You will be notified via your Instagram account’s email address when the data download has been completed. Additionally, you also get the option to decide whether to receive your Instagram data as HTML or JSON formats.
- HTML data lets you easily view your data, even when you are disconnected from the internet, and is best viewed on your computer.
- JSON data lets you easily import your data into another website.
If you want the best media quality, make sure to change the default Media quality setting from Medium to High.
Note: Depending on how much data your Instagram has, this may take a long time to download.
Transfer to Destination
If you select Transfer to destination, you will need to select a destination that is either Google Drive or Dropbox. Additionally, you can schedule the frequency as either being one time, once a month for 6 months, or once a year for 2 years.
After you have taken the above steps to either download your data to your device or transfer it to an outside destination, you will have to wait for a little bit. Instagram will show you the progress of your request and inform you when the download will be prepared.
Note: If you have changed your mind, you can tap on the Cancel button to stop your request from going through. You may have to tap Delete file if the request had already been completed earlier.
How to Download Instagram Data on a Computer
Downloading your data from a computer is even easier. Take the following steps to get your IG data from your computer via a web browser:
- Go to the Instagram website
- Once you are logged in, click on More in the bottom-left corner
- Head to the Download your information menu
- Input your email address to send the data request notification
- Select your preferred data format (HTML or JSON)
- Click on Next to move forward
- Enter your password if you are prompted to do so
- Click on Request download to begin the request
