How to Find a Reel You Watched on Instagram

Published June 16, 2024

Instagram Reels have become a go-to for quick, entertaining videos. But what happens when you want to rewatch a Reel you found earlier? Finding a Reel you’ve already watched can be a bit tricky if you don’t know where to look. Here’s a guide to help you track down the Reel you’re looking for on Instagram.

Check Your Watch History

First, it’s important to note that Instagram doesn’t have a direct watch history feature like YouTube. There are, however, a few ways to backtrack and find previously viewed Reels.

Option 1: Activity Log

Instagram’s activity log can sometimes help you locate your watched Reels.

  • Open Instagram: Launch the app and go to your profile by tapping your profile picture at the bottom right.
  • Access Settings: Click the three horizontal lines at the top right corner and select ‘Your Activity.’
  • Interactions: Tap on ‘Interactions’ to view your recent activity such as likes and comments. This can help jog your memory if you interacted with the Reel.

Option 2: Check Out the Explore Tab

The explore tab often features Reels based on your interests and previous interactions.

  • Open Explore: Click the magnifying glass icon at the bottom of the screen to open the Explore page.
  • Browse Reels: Scroll through the Reels featured on your Explore page. Instagram’s algorithm may surface the Reel you’re looking for based on your past interactions.

Option 3: Search by Username or Hashtags

If you remember the username of the creator or specific hashtags used in the Reel, you can use Instagram’s search bar to find them.

  • Search: Select the magnifying glass icon and type in the username or relevant hashtags in the search bar.
  • Profile Visit: Visit the creator’s profile and check their Reels tab. If the Reel you watched was recent, it should be near the top.

Option 4: Check Your Saved Items

If you saved the Reel, it will be in your saved collection. This is the easiest way to find Reels so make sure to save them if you think you may want to revisit it later.

  • Open Saved Items: Go to your profile and tap the three horizontal lines to open the menu. Select ‘Saved’ from the list.
  • Browse Collections: Check the collections or the ‘All Posts’ section for the saved Reel.

Option 5: Ask Friends

If you watched the Reel because someone else shared it with you, ask them!

  • Direct Message: Ask them to resend you the Reel or remind you of the creator’s name.
  • Shared Posts: If the Reel was shared via DM, check your message history for shared links or mentions.

Tips to Avoid Losing Track of Reels in the Future

  • Save Reels: Whenever you watch a Reel you might want to revisit, select the bookmark icon to save it.
  • Like and Comment: Like or comment on the Reel to make it easier to find later.
  • Share With Friends: Sharing Reels with friends can create an easy reference point in your DMs to find them again.

Conclusion

While Instagram doesn’t offer a simple way to view your watch history, using these methods can help you find the Reel you’re looking to watch again. From checking your activity log to using the Explore tab, there are multiple ways to track down your favorite Reels.
