How to Find Reel Drafts on Instagram?

Published July 8, 2024

Instagram released the Reels feature as an answer to TikTok, and while many people didn’t like it at first, the feature has become integral to the Instagram experience.

Instagram Reels is a powerful tool for engagement and brand promotion, grasping users with short engaging content. Many brands and creators are trying their hand at it, and we’re guessing you’re not far behind.

Creating reels can be fun, but there’s one issue that plagues creators. Imagine you’re editing a reel, and something comes up that can’t wait, you’ll have to save it to your drafts or discard it and start again later. Saving is always the best option, but how do you get them back? Well, in this article we’ll show you how.

What Are Reel Drafts?

Reel Drafts serve as a personal shelf for unfinished masterpieces within the Instagram app. Here, you can add clips, and audio, and experiment with editing tools, all without finalizing the Reel for immediate posting. These drafts act as a safety net for unfinished ideas, letting you come back later when your creative juices are flowing again.

Benefits of Reel Drafts

There are a few reasons why Reel Drafts are important, and here are some of them:

  • Saves Time and Effort: Inspiration can come at any time. With drafts, you can capture ideas on the go and assemble them later at your convenience.
  • Encourages Experimentation: Test out different effects, audio tracks, and transitions without the pressure of immediate publishing.

How to Find Your Reel Drafts

Accessing your saved Reel drafts on Instagram is a simple process, but is easily missed:

  1. Open the Instagram app and tap the Create button (the ‘+’ sign) located at the bottom of the screen. You can also swipe right on the home page.
  2. On the post-creation screen, swipe the bottom menu where various content formats are displayed. You’ll see options like ‘Post,’ ‘Story,’ and ‘Live.’
  3. Locate the ‘Reel’ option and tap on it. This will launch the Reel creation interface.
  4. At the top of the Reel creation screen, you’ll find an icon labeled ‘Drafts.’ Tap on this thumbnail. Here, you’ll find all your saved Reel drafts conveniently displayed.

Editing and Posting Your Drafts

Once you’ve located your drafts, you can seamlessly build upon them.

  • Tap on any draft to open it. This will display the pre-recorded clips and any edits you’ve already applied.
  • Continue editing: Tap on ‘Edit ’ at the top right corner to begin. You can add more clips, adjust the order, experiment with effects and transitions, and finalize the audio track.
  • Preview your masterpiece: Before publishing, try the preview function to ensure everything flows smoothly and looks polished. You’ve already waited, so there’s no rush to post yet.
  • Sharing Your Work: Once satisfied, tap on ‘Next’ to navigate to the caption and sharing screen. Here, you can write an engaging caption, add relevant hashtags, and tag collaborators. Finally, hit “Share” to publish your masterpiece.

Drafts for Greatness

By using your reel drafts, you can capture those moments of creative genius that are so rare, refining them till you produce an absolute banger. There are no limits to the number of drafts you can have, just as there shouldn’t be a limit to your creativity. Keep creating.
