- It is isolated: Hiding a story from someone doesn’t affect your overall following list. You can restore their access by following the same steps we’ll show you and deselecting their username from the list.

You can do this by getting to your profile and clicking on the hamburger menu icon at the top right of the screen. On the popup menu, tap on “Settings and Privacy.”

Hiding Stories Before Posting
- Open the Instagram app and tap on the profile photo in the bottom right corner of your screen.
- On your profile, click on the hamburger menu icon at the top right of the screen to open the profile menu.
- Tap on “Settings and Privacy”. This will open a popup menu.
- Swipe down to who can see your content, and tap on “Hide Story and Live.”
- Tap on “Hide Story and Live From,” then search for the names of the people you want to hide your story from. You can also scroll through your follower list to find them.
- Tap the usernames to add them to the hidden list.
Hiding Stories After Posting
- Open your Instagram profile by tapping your profile picture in the bottom right corner.
- Tap on your story to open it in full screen.
- Swipe up on the screen to reveal the story viewers list.
- Locate the person you want to hide the story from.
- Tap and hold on to their username or press the three-dot icon on the right of their name.
- Select “Hide your Story” from the menu that appears and tap ‘Hide’ again to confirm your change.
