How to Hide Posts on Instagram

Published February 19, 2024

Reorganizing your Instagram feed is one important task that a lot of users undertake. This usually involves deleting some photos from your feed to make way for others that are more aesthetically pleasing.

That picture you want to remove from your feed may not be the most beautiful, but it symbolizes some memories that you may want to keep. What if we tell you that there’s a way to keep that photo on Instagram without any of your followers seeing it? Try Instagram’s archive feature.

In this article, we’ll show you how to leverage Instagram’s Archive feature to hide posts on Instagram.

Archiving vs. Deleting

Before diving in, let’s understand the difference between archiving and deleting.

  • Archiving: This hides the post from your profile but keeps it accessible in the archives section so you can view it later.
  • Deleting: This option permanently removes the post from your account and all copies. Use with caution as the post is gone forever once you go through with it.

How to Hide Posts On Instagram with the Archive Feature

Archiving is reversible, allowing you to hide your Instagram posts from your feed. When a post is archived, only you can see it. Others won’t find them on your profile or through a search.

This feature can only be accessed on mobile apps, as there isn’t an option to add a post to the archives on the desktop. So, get your mobile devices ready and we’ll show you how to do it:

  1. Open the Instagram app.
  2. Navigate to the post you want to hide. You can do this by tapping on the profile photo icon at the bottom of the screen and selecting the post from your profile.
  3. Tap the three-dot icon at the top right corner of the post.
  4. Select “Archive” from the options and your post will be hidden.

After archiving your post, you can still see your photo or video whenever you want in your archives.

Restoring Archived Posts

The cool thing about the archive feature is that you can undo the process whenever you want. This is great for those nostalgic moments that have you scrolling through your archives.

  1. Open your Instagram app and tap on the profile photo at the bottom right of the screen.
  2. Tap on the hamburger menu icon at the top right of the screen to open the profile menu.
  3. Select “Archive” from the menu. This opens your Story archives by default.
  4. Tap on “Story archives” at the top and a popup menu will appear. Tap on “Posts archives” to access your hidden posts.
  5. Click on the post you want to restore.
  6. Tap the three-dot icon at the top right corner of the post.
  7. Tap on “Show on profile” to restore the photo.
  8. Confirm your decision by tapping “Show on profile” again, and your post is restored.

By using the Archive feature effectively and understanding the mechanism of hiding posts, you can tweak your Instagram presence to reflect your current self while preserving memories for your enjoyment. Enjoy.
