How to Hide Reposts on TikTok

Published August 7, 2024

TikTok’s repost feature allows users to share content they love with their followers. It’s a simple yet effective way to engage with the community and amplify the reach of your favorite creators.

When you repost a video, you’re essentially sharing it with your audience, similar to reposting on X. This feature is designed to amplify the content you enjoy and introduce it to your followers.

How to Repost on TikTok

Reposting a TikTok video is quite straightforward:

  1. Find the video: Browse through your For You page or search for specific content.
  2. Tap the share icon: Locate the share icon, typically represented by an arrow, below the video.
3. Select “Repost”: Among the sharing options, choose the “Repost” button.
  4. Confirm: A confirmation message might appear. Tap “Repost” to share the video with your followers.

Reposting is a great feature loved by creators and users alike, but there are some times when you’d prefer more control over what is shown to your followers.

Can You Hide a Repost on TikTok?

Unfortunately, as of now, TikTok doesn’t offer a direct option to hide reposts from your profile or feed. Once you repost a video, it becomes visible to everyone on your profile.

However, there are a few steps you can take to manage the reach and impact of your reposts on your account.

Managing Your Reposted Content

While you can’t hide reposts completely, you can take some steps to manage their visibility:

  • Switch to a private account: With a private account, even your reposts become private. With this setting, only people who you’ve accepted their follow requests can see your reposts. However, this option comes with the limitation of reducing your account’s visibility, so it may not be advisable if you’re a creator.
  • Delete the repost: If you no longer want a repost on your profile, you can delete it. To do this, go to the repost, tap on the repost icon (you reposted), and then select the “Remove repost” option. You could also tap on the share button on the reposted video. There, you’ll find that the repost button has changed to a “Remove Repost” icon. Tap on that to delete it.
  • Limit your reposts: Consider reposting content judiciously. Too many reposts can dilute your original content and impact your profile’s overall aesthetic.
  • Focus on original content: Prioritize creating your own unique content to build a strong personal brand.
  • Engage with the community: Interact with other creators by liking, commenting, and sharing their content. This can help you build relationships and discover new content without relying solely on reposts.

The Impact of Reposts

While reposting can be a way to share content you love, it’s essential to balance it with original content. Relying too much on reposts might dilute your brand and diminish your engagement. By focusing on creating your unique content and strategically using reposts, you can maintain a balanced and engaging profile.

While TikTok currently doesn’t offer a specific feature to hide reposts, you can still manage your profile’s appearance by following these tips.
