How to Hide Tagged Photos on Instagram

Published March 19, 2024

It takes a lot of work to perfect your social media presence. You want your profile on platforms like Instagram to look a certain way to attract the right kind of people.

So, you take your time to make the right posts and create engaging content, and all that gets thrown out the window when a friend posts an embarrassing picture and tags you in it.

Instagram has a feature called “Photos of You.” This feature shows up as a separate tab on your profile where posts in which you were tagged are displayed. These pictures are visible to anyone who can see your profile, so if yours is public, everyone on Instagram can see it.

We’ll get this out of the way first: You cannot delete those photos you were tagged in. But while you may not be able to fully remove photos you’re tagged in from Instagram altogether, the platform offers you some options to manage their visibility on your profile. Let’s go through them.

How to Hide a Tagged Photo

  1. Find the tagged photo: Open the Instagram app and navigate to your profile by clicking on your profile photo at the bottom right. Tap on the “Photos of You” section.
  2. Select the photo: Find the photo you want to hide and tap on it.
  3. Access options: Tap on the three-dot icon in the top right corner. This will bring up a popup menu.
  4. Click on “Tag options”: Click on tag options from the popup menu, which will ring up another menu.
  5. Choose “Hide From Profile”: Select “Hide From My Profile.” This action will remove the photo from your public profile without impacting the original post or its visibility on the profile of the person who tagged you.

How to Hide Multiple Tagged Photos at Once

The procedure for hiding multiple tagged photos at once is slightly different. Here’s what to do:

  1. Get to your profile on the Instagram app and click on the hamburger menu icon at the top right of the page.
  2. Click on “My Activity” on the menu that pops up.
  3. On this menu, click on “Tags”. This will display all the posts you’ve been tagged in. You can now select all that you want to hide.
  4. Once done selecting, you can hide them by clicking on “Hide” at the bottom. Tap “Hide again for confirmation, and those photos are gone from your profile.

How to Remove a Tagged Photo

Removing a tagged photo doesn’t delete it like it may seem. Instead, it removes or un-tags you from the picture, leaving the post intact.

  1. Follow the steps above: Locate the tagged photo you wish to remove your tag from using the same steps as outlined for hiding photos.
  2. Choose “Remove me from post”: Once you access the three-dot menu, select “Remove me from post” instead of “Hide From my Profile.” With that, you can rest easy, as you’re no longer affiliated with that post.

By understanding how to manage your tagged photos, you can maintain control over your online presence. This would ensure your profile reflects the content you’re comfortable sharing with the world. Good luck!
