How to Log Out of Instagram

Published February 19, 2024

There are many reasons why you’d want to log out from Instagram. You may want to take a break from the scrolling, maybe for a digital detox. It could also be that you had logged in on a friend’s device. Whatever your reasons are, undertaking this process can be a chore.

Instagram wants you to stay on the platform for as long as possible, enjoying all it offers. A big, red logout button would be counter-intuitive to that goal. Fortunately, you can log out from Instagram with a little navigation.

In this article, we’ll show you how to log out from Instagram on Android, iOS, and Windows PCs.

How to Log Out of Instagram Accounts on Android and iPhone

  • Open your Instagram app and tap on the profile photo at the bottom right of the screen to open your profile.
  • On your profile, tap on the hamburger menu icon at the top right to open the menu.
  • On the profile menu, tap on “Settings and Privacy”
  • Swipe down on this menu to get to the log-out button. On Android, you can choose between logging out that specific account (Log out [username]) or logging out every account on your device (Log out of all accounts)
  • Tap on the one you choose, then confirm your decision, and you’re done. You are now logged out of Instagram on your Android device.

How to Log Out of Instagram Accounts on Desktop

  • Go to the Instagram website on your browser.
  • Click on “More” with the hamburger menu icon at the bottom left of the screen. This will open a popup menu.
  • The last item on this menu is “Log out.” Click on it and you’ll be logged out.

Quick Note: Logging out on one device doesn’t automatically remove your account from all the other devices you’re logged in on. You’ll have to log them out individually. This means that logging out on your mobile device doesn’t remove your account on the desktop.

How to Log Out of All Your Instagram Sessions

Using the Account Centre feature from Meta, you can review all the devices where your account is currently logged in and decide the sessions to end.  Here’s how to get there.

  • Navigate to your profile. Do this by clicking on your profile photo, which is found in the bottom right for mobile and bottom left for desktops.
  • From the profile, get to the profile menu. Do this by clicking on the hamburger menu icon on mobile, or the gear icon on desktop.
  • Click on “Settings and Privacy”
  • Click on “Account Centre” to open it.
  • In the Account Centre, click on “Password and security.”
  • Click on “Where you’re logged in,” to analyze all the devices your account can be found on.
  • Tap on “Select devices to log out.”
  • Select the offending logins and click log out. With this, your account will be logged out.

We’ve shown you how to log out from Instagram. By following these steps and considering the additional tips, you can confidently log out of Instagram on any device, ensuring your privacy and security.
