How to Post on Instagram From a PC

Published April 7, 2024

Instagram might seem like a phone-exclusive experience, but it isn’t. Sure, the Instagram app on mobile is stocked with features that enhance the experience, but the website is no barren desert either.

Many creators leverage their PCs for posting on Instagram and managing their accounts for a few reasons.

  • Third-party management apps: The PC platform boasts many tools that help manage Instagram accounts. These apps give valuable insights into your account to help you manage it effectively.
  • Powerful media editing tools: The most powerful media editing tools are all on PC. For content editors who already use these tools on their PCs, posting on that same platform would save a lot of stress.

Posting via the Instagram Website: How to Do It

Posting your content through the Instagram website on PC is quite easy. Let’s walk through the steps involved in posting content directly through a web browser:

  1. Web Browser Access: Open your preferred web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.) and navigate to the Instagram website.
  2. Log In: Enter your Instagram username and password to log in to your account.
  3. Start the Upload Process: Look to the left of the screen to find the “Create” button. Clicking this button will initiate the upload process.
  4. Choose Your Media: A window instructing you to drag the photo or video you want to upload or select from your computer will appear. Click on “Select From Computer” to navigate to the file location on your computer and choose your desired media.
  • Supported File Formats: Ensure your photos are in JPG or PNG format and videos are in MP4 format. Instagram also has limitations on file size (up to 10MB for photos and 25MB for videos).
  1. Editing Options (Optional): After selecting your media, basic editing options will be available. These include cropping, adjusting brightness, contrast, saturation, and adding filters.
  2. Craft Your Caption: Beside the preview of your chosen media, you’ll find a caption box where you can write a captivating write-up to accompany your post. Try to include relevant hashtags to increase discoverability.
  3. Location Tag (Optional): You can add a location tag to your post by clicking the “Add Location” option below the caption box.
  4. Sharing the Spotlight: If you want to tag people in your post, type “@” followed by their username in the caption.
  5. Advanced Settings: While scheduling posts isn’t native to the web browser version, you can still adjust a few things.

By clicking on the “Advanced Settings” option, you open a menu that lets you decide whether to hide like and view counts on your post or turn off comments.

  1. Sharing Your Masterpiece: Once you’re satisfied with your caption, edits, and settings, click the “Share” button to publish your post to your Instagram feed.

Wrapping Up

The web browser is a great option for posting from your PC. It’s a secure and convenient way to share photos and videos on your Instagram feed.

However, if you need features like scheduling or managing multiple accounts, you can try alternative methods like the official Instagram mobile app or some trustworthy third-party apps.
