Have you ever wondered if it was possible to share creative Reels directly on your Instagram story without flooding your feed?
Few personal accounts care about this sort of thing, but if you’re handling a brand page, we’re sure you’ve thought of this a million times. This feature is necessary to keep your carefully curated profile feed intact.
It’s a bummer that Instagram doesn’t offer a dedicated feature to achieve this. Thankfully, there’s a clever workaround that lets you showcase your Reels (or snippets of them) on your story, enticing viewers to explore the full masterpiece.
With this article, we’ll walk you through the three-step process to achieve this and offer some additional tips to maximize your Reel’s reach.
Why Post a Reel on Your Story?
Instagram stories offer a dynamic platform for sharing fleeting moments. They’re perfect for showing your followers that you or your brand have a fun quirky side once in a while. They also work for promoting your Reels and driving traffic to your feed.
But what if you don’t want the full Reel cluttering your carefully curated grid? That’s where the three-step method comes into play.
Step 1: Reel Creation With Strategic Posting
- Craft Your Masterpiece: Start by creating your engaging Reel using videos, photos, music, and effects within the Instagram Reel creation interface.
- Targeted Sharing: This is a key step. When sharing your finished Reel, ensure you deselect the option to post it to your main feed. You’ll find this option after you’re done editing the Reel. Find ‘Profile Display’ in the settings and change the option from ‘Main grid and Reels grid’ to ‘Reels grid only.’ This ensures the Reel is only visible on the dedicated Reels tab, so you don’t have to delete it later.
- Share your Reel: Once you’re done, you can share your reel to your Reels tab.
Step 2: Sharing a Reel Snippet on Your Story
- Reel Download: Once your Reel is exclusively on the Reels tab, tap on it to view it in fullscreen. Tap on the three dots icon at the bottom right corner to open a menu. Then click on ‘Save to Camera Roll.’
- Story Clip Creation: Head over to your Instagram story interface. Swipe up to access your camera roll and locate the downloaded Reel video.
- Storytelling Snippets: With the story clipping tool, you can create captivating snippets from the downloaded Reel. If the Reel is short enough, you can post the entire thing. It’s your choice.
- Story Enhancements: Spruce up your story clip with interactive stickers like polls or quizzes related to the Reel’s content. Text overlays can also be used to mention specific aspects of the Reel and encourage viewers to explore further.
Step 3: Maintaining Your Clean Feed
- Reel Removal (Optional): Since your desired content is now shared on your story, you can choose to delete the original Reel from the Reels tab on your profile. That would keep your feed clutter-free and focus attention on your other content. However, there’s no harm in keeping the Reel on the Reels tab if it aligns with your overall content strategy.
Embrace the Power of Storytelling
While directly sharing a full Reel to your story isn’t a built-in feature, this three-step approach is a creative workaround that helps you achieve that. You can apply this on your Instagram account to great results, so what are you waiting for?
