How to Remove TikTok Filter

Published August 3, 2024

TikTok filters can add fun and creativity to your videos, but sometimes you might want to remove a filter to get a more natural look. Whether you’ve added a filter on accident or changed your mind, here’s how to remove a TikTok filter before or after posting your video.

Removing a Filter Before Posting

If you’ve applied a filter to your TikTok video but haven’t posted it yet, removing it is simple.

Open the TikTok App

Launch the TikTokapp on your mobile device.

Create or Edit Your Video

Tap the plus icon (+) at the bottom of the screen to create a new video or open an existing draft. Record your video or select the draft you want to edit.

Access the Filters

Once you’re on the editing screen:

  • Filters: Tap the ‘Filters’ icon on the right side of the screen. It looks like three overlapping circles.
  • Remove the Filter: Scroll through the filter options and select ‘Normal’ or the original filterness option. This will remove any applied filter from your video.
  • Effects: If you’ve added other effects, tap the ‘Effects’ icon at the bottom of the screen and deselect any applied effects.

Save or Post Your Video

After removing the filter, you can continue editing your video or tap ‘Next’ to proceed to the posting screen. Add any captions, hashtags and privacy settings before posting.

Removing a Filter After Posting

Unfortunately, once a video is posted on TikTok, you cannot directly remove the filter from the posted video. However, you can achieve a similar effect by following these steps.

Save the Video

To remove the filter from a posted video, you need to save it first.

  • Open Your Profile: Tap the ‘Profile’ icon at the bottom right corner of the screen.
  • Select the Video: find the video from which you want to remove the filter.
  • Save the Video: Tap the three dots (or arrow) icon on the right side of the screen and select ‘Save Video’ to download it to your device.

Re-upload the Video

  • Create a New Post: Tap the plus icon (+) at the bottom of the screen to create a new post.
  • Upload the Saved Video: Select the saved video from your device’s gallery.
  • Edit the Video: Tap the ‘Filters’ icon and select ‘Normal’ or the original filterless option to remove any filters. You can also edit any additional effect applied to the video.

Post the Video

After removing the filter and making any necessary edits.

  • Add Captions and Hashtags: Include any captions and hashtags you want.
  • Adjust Settings: Set your privacy preferences.
  • Post the Video: Tap ‘Post’ to share the video without the filter.

Tips for Avoiding Filter Mistakes

To prevent the need to remove filters, consider these tips.

  • Preview Filters: Always preview filters before applying them to your video to make sure they match your desired look.
  • Save Drafts: Use the ‘Save as Draft’ feature to review your video later and make changes if needed before posting.
  • Edit Carefully: Take your time during the editing process to avoid accidental filter applications.

Final Thoughts

While removing a filter from a posted TikTok video isn’t possible directly, you can still achieve a filterless look by saving, editing and re-uploading the video. By following these steps, you can maintain control over your video’s appearance and make sure it aligns with your creative vision.
