How to Replicate the ‘best Nine’ Feature of 2016 on Instagram

Published July 9, 2024

The end of the year rolls around, and it’s always a lovely time. A great period to dust out your jolly red robe, decorate a Christmas tree, and create a collage of your best nine photos on Instagram for the year.

After twelve months on Instagram, it’s always nice to sit back and enjoy a collage containing your most-liked memories of the year. It’s shocking to say this, but there still isn’t an official Instagram Best Nine feature, despite how popular it is. The Best Nine post picked up in 2016, and is still going strong now.

You could always make the collage yourself, but that would require hours of going through the hundreds of photos you’ve posted that year to find the ones with the most likes. And that is before you begin making the collage.

With this article, we’ll show you some quick and easy methods to showcase your top nine Instagram posts.

Third-party Tools for the Win

This is one instance where third-party tools come to the rescue. These websites or apps can analyze your Instagram profile data and generate a collage featuring your top nine most-liked posts.

However, keep these points in mind before you begin:

  • Privacy and Security: Use reputable third-party tools with clear privacy policies. Avoid any tool that asks for excessive permissions or login credentials,
  • Public Instagram Account: Since these tools rely on publicly available data, ensure your Instagram profile is set to public for accurate results. Here’s how to do it:
    • Open the Instagram app and navigate to your profile page.
    • Locate the hamburger menu icon at the top right of the screen. Tap on it to get to the ‘Settings and Activity’ menu.
    • In the ‘Settings and Activity’ menu, locate the ‘Account Privacy’ option and tap on it.
    • In ‘Account Privacy,’ you’ll find a toggle switch labeled ‘Private Account.’ Simply tap the switch to turn it off.
    • Instagram will ask you for confirmation. Tap ‘Switch to Public’ to proceed. With this, your Instagram account is now public.

Popular Third-party Tools for Getting Your Best Nine Photos on Instagram

Here are some popular options to help you get your Best Nine photos. Some of these tools also give other insights like Average and Total Likes for the year, which can be helpful.

  • Top Nine For Instagram: This is a popular app that can help you with the Top Nine collage. You can then download the collage or share it directly on social media. It’s only available on iOS devices.
  • Nine Grid Photo – Grid Maker: This app is available for iOS and Android. Type in your Instagram handle and an email to check out your top nine posts for the year and have it emailed to you. The app offers additional insights like your Total and Average likes per post.

This app also offers the Top Nine functionality for private accounts. However, you’d have to log in with your Instagram email and password to grant them access to your data. That might not be ideal for some people.

A Walk Down Memory Lane

While there’s no official Best Nine feature, third-party tools allow you to revisit your memories from the year. So, embrace the nostalgia, check out these apps, and relive your highlights from the year.
