How to See Deleted Stories on Instagram

Published June 20, 2024

Instagram Stories are a fun and engaging way to share moments with your followers. Unfortunately, they only last for 24 hours, and you might find yourself wishing you could see a Story that’s already gone. The good news is that if you accidentally deleted your Story or you want to revisit an older one, Instagram has options for accessing deleted Stories. Here’s how to do it.

Accessing Your Own Deleted Stories

If you’ve deleted your own Instagram Story and want to see it again, you can use Instagram’s ‘Recently Deleted’ feature.

How to Use the ‘recently Deleted’ Feature on Instagram

  • Open Instagram: Start by opening the Instagram app on your phone.
  • Go to Your Profile: Click on your profile icon in the bottom right corner of the screen.
  • Open Settings: Click the menu icon at the top right corner and select ‘Settings.’
  • Navigate to Your Account: In the ‘Settings’ menu, select ‘Account.’
  • Select Recently Deleted: Scroll down and tap on ‘Recently Deleted.’ This section shows all the posts, including Stories, photos, videos and Reels you’ve deleted in the last 30 days.
  • Restore the Story: Find the deleted Story you want to see. Click on it and then select ‘Restore’ to bring it back to your profile.

Using the Archive Feature

Instagram automatically saves your Stories to an archive after they disappear from your profile.

How to Access Your Archived Stories

  • Open Instagram: Launch the Instagram app on your phone.
  • Head to Your Profile: Click on your profile icon at the bottom right corner of the screen.
  • Open the Archive: Click the three horizontal lines at the top right corner and select ‘Archive.’
  • View Archived Stories: In the Archive section, you’ll see all your past Stories. You can browse through them by date.
  • Repost Archived Stories: If you want to share a Story again, click on it, select ‘Share’ to repost it to your current Story.

Viewing Deleted Stories From Others

If you’re trying to see a deleted Story from another user, the bad news is that instagram doesn’t provide a direct way to do this. Stories are designed to be temporary, so once they’re deleted or the 24-hour period is over, they’re gone from public view.

Conclusion

While Instagram Stories are fleeting, there are ways to revisit your own deleted content. By using the ‘Recently Deleted’ feature or accessing your archive, you can see and even restore your deleted Stories. Although you can’t view deleted Stories from other users, you can always reach out to them and ask if they have a way to share it again. With these tips, you’ll never have to worry about losing your favorite Instagram moments.
