How to Share a Reel on Instagram

You only need to follow a few simple steps to share a Reel to your Story. Here’s how:

1. Open the Instagram app
2. Tap on the + icon in the menu at the bottom of the screen
3. Tap on Reel from the options towards the bottom of the screen
4. Find the Reel or content you want to make into a Reel, select it, and tap Next

8. Tap Share to complete posting the Reel
9. Go to your Reel and tap on the paper airplane icon

12. Tap the Done button

When you have taken all of these steps, you can both view the entire Reel directly from your profile and also view the first 15 seconds of it in your Story.

To increase engagement on your shared reel, you can add a Tap here sticker or another element over the Reel in your Story to encourage viewers to click through to the full Reel.

How to Share a Reel on Instagram Someone Else Posted

You can also share Reels that your friends have posted to their profiles. Here is how to share someone’s reel on Instagram:

1. Open the Instagram app
2. Find a Reel you would like to share on your Instagram account
3. Tap on the airplane button beneath the Reel or on the right side in Full Screen mode
4. Tap on Add to story to share the Reel as a Story on your account
5. Tap the rightward arrow and then tap the Share button
6. Tap the Done button to finalize sharing of someone’s Reel as a Story

Note: Make sure the username of the account you are sharing the Reel from is visible to give credit to its creator.

How to Share a Full Reel as an Instagram Story

Now that you know how to share Reels on Instagram, you may be wondering what you can do to show an entire Reel as a Story. 

By default, only the first 15 seconds of a video clip plays in a Story. To view more, someone will have to click on the Reel in your Story to go to the full video. This disrupts the viewing process and normally results in people not seeing your entire video.

• Download your Reel
• Upload it as a Story from your phone’s camera roll
