How to Share Facebook Post to Instagram

Published February 23, 2024

Facebook and Instagram have been living under the Meta Platforms umbrella since 2012. When the company decided to purchase Instagram for $1 billion, many people thought they were making a mistake.

Since the acquisition, Meta has been finding new ways to connect Facebook and Instagram to give users a seamless experience. Instagram users have been able to share their instagram photos to Facebook, but what about the other way around?

This is where it gets complicated. While you can share a Facebook post to Instagram, there are many limitations. In this article, we’re going to go over how to share Facebook post to Instagram.

Why Would I Want to Share My Facebook Post to Instagram?

First, you may be wondering why someone would want to share their Facebook post to Instagram. Having the ability to cross-post content is helpful for influencers and businesses. It can help you expand your reach to new audiences you wouldn’t have if you only stuck to Instagram.

For personal use, you may have friends and family who are only on one platform or another. Cross-posting means you can share your content with your friends on Instagram and your grandma who uses Facebook.

What Facebook Posts Can I Share to Instagram?

Before we tell you how to share a Facebook post to Instagram, there are only specific posts you can share. The Facebook website mentions that you cannot share posts that:

  • Have more than ten videos
  • Have multiple videos
  • Photos that are different sizes
  • Photos that don’t fit in Instagram’s aspect ratios
  • Facebook posts that have features Instagram doesn’t

For example, you can post an album of 40 photos on Facebook that are all different sizes. Instagram doesn’t allow this kind of post, so you won’t be able to cross-post it to both platforms. Live videos from Facebook also can’t be posted, or text posts that don’t contain photos or videos.

Typically, creators who want to cross-post will tailor the post to Instagram’s specifications if they want it to be on their permanent feed.

What you CAN post are Facebook Stories. In fact, you can access the Meta Accounts Center to ensure that when you post a story, it posts to both your Facebook and Instagram.

How to Share Posts to Instagram and Facebook

If you want to share Stories to Instagram from Facebook, there are a couple of methods to try.

Automatically Share Stories to Both Accounts

  • On Facebook, head to Accounts Center
  • Click on Connected Experiences
  • Select Sharing Across Profiles
  • Select your Facebook Profile
  • Toggle on Your Facebook Story
  • Your Facebook stories should now share automatically to Instagram

You can also toggle on the Facebook Posts switch to share to Instagram, but it will only share posts when you have one photo in them. Again, there are a lot more restrictions to Instagram content and you cannot include as much in one post as you can on Instagram.

Final Insights

If you want to share posts to Instagram from Facebook that aren’t stories, it’s better to do so manually than try to cross-post.
