Published March 18, 2024

A lot of content goes through your Instagram feed daily. Some of them are just okay, so you scroll past them. But some others are just so good that you’d love your friends and followers to join in on the entertainment.

Your Instagram story is a great place to share these posts as your followers can enjoy that piece of premium content for the next 24 hours. Your share will also have the username of the original poster on it, ensuring that your audience can interact on the original page. A win-win situation, if you ask us.

Instagram encourages these shares, and as such, there’s an easy way to do it. We’ll take you through that.

How to Share an Instagram Post on Your Story

If you want to share an Instagram Post on your story, these are the quick steps to do it:

  • Get to the post you want to share and tap on the paper airplane icon below it.
  • This will open a menu with some of your frequently contacted friends. Click on the “Add to story” button at the bottom.
  • This will open your story with the original post appearing as a sticker on a solid color background. You can edit this however you wish by rotating, scaling, or adding text and stickers. Once done, tap the “>” button at the bottom right.
  • This brings up a menu for you to select who sees the story. You could make it visible to all your followers or just those on the close friends list. You could even send it as a DM, but that’s not what we’re talking about today.
  • Once you’re done, click “Share” to post.

Why Can’t I Share an Instagram Post on My Story?

Sometimes, you may be unable to share a post on your story. This could happen for a few reasons.

  • The account is private: Instagram provides private accounts with all the privacy they need. This includes protecting their posts from being reshared by their followers.

Sure, they’ve granted you access to their posts, but that’s only for viewing. You can’t share them.

  • The account is public, but restricts resharing to stories: Public accounts all allow resharing on stories by default, but Instagram gives the option to turn that off. This can be easily accessed on the app.

Simply, click on your profile photo on the bottom right. Tap the hamburger menu icon on the top right and tap on “Settings and Privacy.” Swipe down to “Sharing and Remixes” on this menu and tap on it.

Here you can now customize your preferences. By, turning this option off, you forfeit the extra reach and engagement you may receive from reshares of your reels.

Conclusion

Now, you’ve seen how easy it is to reshare an Instagram Post on your story. Ensure to use this option with every post on your feed that catches your attention. This is a great way to engage your audience while giving credit to the original poster.
