How to Unarchive Instagram Posts

Published March 9, 2024

Have you ever archived an Instagram post, only to wish you could get it back? If so, you will be happy to know that you can simply unarchive it so that they reappear on your page.

Whether you did it by accident or on purpose, we will go over how to unarchive Instagram posts.

Note: Unarchiving IG posts must be done within the Instagram app.

What Happens When You Archive Instagram Posts

Instagram has a built-in feature called Archive that allows anyone to hide a post from their profile page from anyone else. If you want to prevent others from seeing some of your content, but are not willing to part with it permanently, using the Archive feature is the perfect solution.

How to Unarchive Instagram Posts

To unarchive Instagram posts, you will have to follow these steps:

  1. Open the Instagram app
  2. Tap your profile photo in the bottom-right of the screen
  3. Tap on the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines) at the top-right of the screen
  4. Locate the Archive tab and tap it
  5. Go to the top and select Stories Archive but then select Posts Archive in the menu
  6. Find the post you would like to unarchive and tap on the three dots in the post’s corner
  7. Tap on Show on profile to complete the unarchiving of the selected post

Note: You can archive and unarchive your posts however many times you wish.

How to Unarchive Instagram Stories

The process of unarchiving Stories is a little different from the above method for posts. This is due to Stories disappearing after 24 hours have passed. Old Stories cannot be reposted.

Stories can be added to your profile page within the Highlights section. This is the method we will review when it comes to how you can unarchive IG Stories.

  1. Open the Instagram app
  2. Tap on your profile photo in the bottom-right of the screen
  3. Tap on the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines) in the top-right of the screen
  4. Locate the Archive tab and tap on it
  5. Find the Story you want to unarchive to place in your Highlights and select it
  6. Tap on Highlight and give it a name, and then tap Add

You should now see the Story has been unarchived and added to your Highlights section on your profile page.

Bottom Line: Now that you know how to unarchive Instagram posts and stories, you can restore content you would like to share to your followers easily. Whether you made a mistake or intentionally archived content, you can take the above steps to return them to their original place.
