Instagram is one of the most popular social networks in the world. Boasting a monthly active user count of over 2 billion people worldwide, the platform has a deluge of content that keeps it entertaining for its massive user base.
Nowadays, it’s not uncommon for a person to have multiple Instagram accounts. That could be for the simple reason of keeping your brand and platform usage separate.
Having multiple accounts may sound like a stressful undertaking when you think of logging in and out of the different accounts, but Instagram makes it easier.
Managing Multiple Instagram Accounts
Instagram offers a few tools to help users who own or manage multiple accounts.
- Switch Between Instagram Accounts: On the Instagram app, you can have up to five accounts logged in on your app and switch between them with ease. You can do this by clicking on the profile photo icon at the bottom right of the screen and then tapping the downward pointing arrow next to your username.
That will open up a list of your accounts on that device that you can switch between.
- Link Two Instagram Accounts: You could also take it a step further by linking your Instagram accounts so that they even have the same login details. That makes logging in a lot easier as you must remember only one set of login details, but it compromises security.
Unfortunately, this feature is no longer supported on the Instagram app, but you can unlink those accounts if you have previously linked them. We’ll show you how.
Unlinking Two Instagram Accounts
Unlinking your Instagram accounts can be done through the app. However, you must get to the Meta Accounts Centre for it. Let’s get to it.
- Tap on your profile photo at the bottom right of the screen. This will open your profile.
- Next, tap the hamburger menu icon at the top right of the screen to open the “Settings and Activity” screen.
- Tap on “Accounts Centre” to open the Meta Account management tool. Here, you can manage all your accounts across other Meta platforms like Facebook.
- On this screen, click on “Accounts.” This will show you a list of all your accounts on Meta platforms.
- Tap on “Remove” next to the Instagram account you want to unlink.
- On the confirmation page that pops up, click on “Remove Account.”
- Another confirmation page will pop up; tap on “Continue” here.
- Tap on “Yes, Remove [account name]” for the final confirmation, and your account will be unlinked.
- You may be prompted to create new login details for the unlinked account if you didn’t before.
Important Things to Note
Before taking this step, you should keep these things in mind.
- Unlinking your Instagram account will not delete or deactivate it. You can still access the unlinked account by logging in with its separate username and password.
- Relinking your account isn’t possible again. However, you can add the account to your Instagram app and switch to it freely.
Following these steps, you can unlink your Instagram accounts and manage your social media presence more effectively. Enjoy!
