Can You See Who Views Your Instagram Videos?

Published March 9, 2024

Instagram continues to remain a popular social media platform for its blend of photos, videos and social engagement. While the app was initially designed to share static photos, users can now share videos.  With so many ways to post from Stories to Reels, users can be left wondering who views their content?

The answer to this question is yes, Instagram lets you see who views your videos. The important thing to keep in mind is that there may be time constraints. Let’s go over Instagram videos and answer the question ‘can you see who views your Instagram videos?”

Can You See Who Viewed Your Instagram Story?

To start, Instagram gives users a straightforward way to see who viewed your story posts. All you need to do is select your story post and swipe up. There you’ll see a list of everyone who has viewed your story with their profile name. This transparency is available to personal accounts, and business account users. You won’t be able to see data insights through a personal account, but you can see the names for up to 24 hours.

If you save Instagram Stories to your highlights, you will not be able to access the list of viewers after the 24 hours are up. You can only see this information when the story is active.

Instagram Live Videos

Instagram Live videos are another place where Instagram gives you access to see who views your videos. While you’re streaming the live, you’ll be able to see the number of people tuning in as well as their usernames.

Not only can users view your Live, they can leave comments to interact with you. Once your live is over, you have the option to add it to your story for 24 hours. With an Instagram Live video, you won’t be able to access the list of viewers once the video is over, but you can see who watches it from your story for 24 hours.

Reels

As for Instagram Reels, they work a little differently. For instance, you won’t be able to swipe up to see the names of the people who have viewed your Reel. The only option is to access Insights if you have a business account to see how many people have viewed the Reel, but you won’t be able to see their names. This policy is likely to protect viewer privacy while still giving creators the option to collect data.

Conclusion

The short answer to the question of whether you can see who views your Instagram videos is yes, depending on the type of video. The only video content that Instagram doesn’t let you see viewers information on is Reels.
