Why Are My Highlights Not Showing on Instagram?

Published July 6, 2024

Instagram Highlights are a great way to keep your favorite stories visible on your profile for more than 24 hours. The problem is that sometimes you may have issues with your Highlights not showing up on your page. If you’re wondering why this is happening and how to fix it, we’ve got you covered. It’s actually very easy to fix!

Why Highlights Aren’t Showing Up

First, there are many reasons why Highlights might not be showing up.

Common Reasons

  • Stories Expired: If you didn’t save the story before the 24 hours are done, they will expire. This means they also won’t show up in your highlights.
  • Archived Stories Disabled: Instagram automatically archives your stories, but if you’ve disabled this feature, stories won’t be saved and you won’t be able to add them to your Highlights.
  • App Issues: Sometimes, bugs or glitches in the app can keep Highlights from showing up.
  • Privacy Settings: If your account is private, only your followers can see your Highlights. If someone who isn’t following you tries to view your profile, they won’t see your Highlights.
  • Internet Connection: A weak or unstable internet connection can cause issues with loading Highlights.

How to Fix It

Now that we know what some of the common reasons this happens are, here are steps to fix it.

Check Your Story Archive Settings

You should make sure that your stories are being saved.

  • Go to Your Profile: Click the three horizontal lines in the top right corner and select ‘Settings.’
  • Navigate to Privacy: Select ‘Privacy’ and then ‘Story.’
  • Enable Save t to Archive: Make sure ‘Save to Archive’ is turned on. That way, your stories will be saved automatically so you’ll be able to upload them to Highlights at any point.

Re-add Stories to Highlights

If your stories are in the archive but not showing up in Highlights, try to red-add them.

  • Access Archive: Go to your profile, click the three lines, and select ‘Archive.’
  • Choose Stories: Find the stories you want to add to your Highlights.
  • Create or Update Highlight: Click the Story, then tap ‘Highlight’ and either add it to an existing Highlight or create a new one.

Update or Reinstall Instagram

Sometimes all it takes is updating or reinstalling the app.

  • Update the App: Go to the app Store or Google Play Store and check for updates. If an update is available, install it.
  • Reinstall the App: If updating doesn’t work, try deleting the app and reinstalling it. This can often resolve persistent issues.

Check Your Internet Connection

Make sure your internet connection is stable.

  • Switch Networks: If you’re on Wi-Fi, try switching to mobile data, or vice versa.
  • Restart Your Router: If you’re on Wi-Fi, restarting your router can sometimes help.

Closing Thoughts

The bottom line is that Instagram Highlights are a fantastic way to showcase your best stories, but it can be frustrating when they don’t show up as expected. By checking your settings, re-adding stories, and making sure your app connecting is stable you should be able to solve the issue.
