When Instagram Notes were released in 2022, anyone who used an away status on AIM as a teenager rejoiced. With a sense of nostalgia surrounding them, notes have become a fun addition to the Instagram messages page.

What Are Instagram Notes?

When you post a note, you can use both text and emojis. Notes are shown at the top of the message inbox page, and you’ll see all the notes of your following list here, as well. This is also where you can see what users are currently online. They are a fun little way to tell everyone what you’re up to.
Why Can’t I See Notes on Instagram?
Notes from your following list should show up automatically at the top of the message inbox page. If they aren’t, here are some of the reasons this may be happening:
Out of Date Instagram App
If you can’t see Notes on Instagram, make sure that your app is up to date. They are relatively new, so there may be bugs causing you not to see them that have been fixed. If your app isn’t up to date, install the update and see if this fixes your Notes issue.
Bad Internet Connection
Make sure that your internet connection is stable and that you’re connected to it. Sometimes network issues can cause features on Instagram to not work properly.
Notes Disabled in Settings
It’s possible that you may have disabled Notes in your privacy settings. Head to the settings and security page to make sure you have them enabled.
Your Device is Incompatible
Currently, Notes is available on Android and iPhone. You cannot access Notes on desktop, so if you’re on your laptop, that may be why they aren’t working. Try opening the app on your cell phone to see if it’s working.
There’s a Technical Glitch
As with any software sometimes there’s going to be glitches. Instagram may be experiencing an issue that is making Notes unavailable to its users. In this case, you can report the issue to Instagram, but you’ll have to wait it out.
